Region matters more than hardware here

[ HOW IT WORKS ]

Region matters more than hardware here

Latency is close to irrelevant for this workload and throughput is everything, which frees you to pick purely on jurisdiction. Chișinău and Victoria are the strongest options we run; Sofia and Bucharest are excellent when most of your peers are European and there is still no takedown timetable to meet.

The regions to avoid for this are our standard ones. Frankfurt, Singapore and Tokyo are fast and well-connected, and local law applies there in the ordinary way. We label them separately precisely so that this choice is made deliberately rather than by accident.

Encryption that does not depend on trusting us

[ WHY NODMCAVPS ]

Encryption that does not depend on trusting us

Volumes are AES-256 encrypted at rest by default, which protects against a drive leaving the building. Supplying your own key goes considerably further: the array becomes unreadable to us as well, turning a privacy policy into an arrangement whose guarantees do not rest on our future behaviour.

We do not scan stored content, maintain a hash database or catalogue what sits on the disks. There is no index, which is a more useful property than a promise not to look at one — an index that does not exist cannot be subpoenaed, leaked or repurposed later.

What you always get

Keys you hold, not usDefault AES-256 at rest, or supply your own key and we lose the ability to read the volume entirely. The second option is the one worth having.
Survives two dead disksRAID-6 across enterprise drives, so a bad week in the array does not become a lost archive.
Protocols, not a portalrsync, SFTP and S3-compatible endpoints. Your existing backup scripts and sync clients work unchanged.
NVMe in frontA cache tier keeps transfers and incremental syncs fast even when the array behind it is spinning rust.
No content indexingWe do not scan, hash-match or catalogue what is stored. There is no index for anyone to subpoena.
Scheduled snapshotsOptional automated snapshots so a bad sync is recoverable rather than final.

[ FAQ ]

Frequently asked

How much disk should I take for a gigabit port?

Around two terabytes of active library per gigabit is a sane starting ratio. Bandwidth without disk buys you nothing, and the most common sizing mistake is a wide port in front of an array too small to feed it.

Do you scan or hash-match stored files?

No. There is no content scanning, no perceptual hashing and no catalogue. Nothing is indexed, so there is no index to hand over to anybody.

Can I use rclone or restic?

Yes. The S3-compatible endpoint works with rclone, and restic, Duplicati and most sync clients work unchanged over SFTP or rsync.
