If a host tells you it will carry absolutely anything, one of two things is true. Either it is lying to close the sale, or it is telling the truth and will be raided, deplatformed by its transit providers, or gone within the year. Neither outcome is one you want your infrastructure sitting inside.

• Targeted harassment of a private individual, including publishing their personal details to invite it.

Why this is in your interest, not just ours

Every item on that list attracts the kind of attention that ends networks. A range full of phishing gets blocklisted, and your unrelated mail server stops delivering. A botnet controller invites law enforcement to seize a rack, and your machine happens to be in it. Spam poisons the reputation of every address we own, including yours.

The customers who suffer most from a permissive abuse policy are the other customers. Removing the criminal categories quickly is what keeps the addresses clean, the transit providers calm and the doors closed — which is precisely what lets us decline the copyright notices without the whole thing collapsing.

Jurisdiction still applies

Beyond that list, local criminal law governs wherever the machine physically sits. What is lawful in Panama is not automatically lawful in Bulgaria. If the legality of your project is genuinely jurisdiction-dependent, ask before you deploy rather than after — we would rather turn a project away than take money for a placement that was never going to hold.
